“The rarest of human qualities is consistency.” — J e r e m y B e n t h a m
You are not defined by a singular moment, good or bad,
triumphant or total failure, a single lapse in judgment, one
shining moment, a lucky break, one win, one defeat does not define
your true character. What then defines your character of stone?
Consistency. You are the sum of your actions. True greatness derives
from patience coupled with a pattern of longstanding, steadfastly
doing the right thing in the moment repeatedly without fail. You
may stray. Exercise poor judgment every now and then, but over the
long haul your track record should be overwhelmingly glaring with
consistent steadfast work and virtuous judgments of always doing
the right thing in the moment.
Dependable. Trustworthy. A sterling reputation. These are all
traits you must strive for, but how do you get there? Consistency
is key. It may be boring. Not flashy. It is remarkably difficult to
maintain, but steadfast judgment and a pattern of consistency are
admirable qualities that at the end of the day will land you exactly
where you need to be. Overnight success is the culmination of years
of pounding away at your craft. Snap judgments, impulses, jealousy,
envy, frustration all will lead you down a bad road. Be there in
good and bad times, not just when it happens to be convenient for you.
You are the sum of your actions. True, consistent, steadfast
judgment takes patience. You know the right direction and down
which path you must go. A steady continuity will keep you free from
contradiction and bring you harmony.
